Meet Karli from Studio:Self

Need some inspiration on how to show up as the best version of yourself? You came to the right place! Meet Karli from Studio:Self, a place that helps you become your best self thru self-care, inspiration and community. Karli is a beautiful soul and constantly lifts me up when I visit her corner of the internet, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to learn more about her.

Check out some of her tangible tips on how to live well during this time and be sure to visit her Instagram @studioselfco for more information and inspiration.

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and @studioselfco?
Yes! My name is Karli and I am a brit lady living in the US (just hit 7 years). I’m from close to London and moved to LA in 2013, then NYC, Boston, and back to NYC! I currently live with my amazing hubs (@evh_nyc, who is just launching his coffee shop @darby_nyc) in Williamsburg and we love it here. I started @studioselfco 2 years ago, and it is a place where I hope everyone feels they can be themselves, and together we work on showing up in all areas of life as the best version of ourselves. Progress, not perfection!

2. Who or what inspired you to start @studioselfco?
I started @studioselfco (studio:self) 2 years ago after having been through some big life changes/stressors and that leading me down the wellness path in search for tools to support me. It was actually called @workingwomenswellness to begin with - not so great! Anyway, it started as a little account where I would post wellness content to not spam any friends, and has blossomed into a community full of incredible people - and has brought partners and events my way that I get to be part of, and that makes me really happy.

3. What have you been doing to stay at peace during this uneasy time?
I’m a big routine girl, so that was immediately what anchored me as COVID19 set in, as did official work from home life. I immediately knew what tools, people, things were going to need to be close to help me through these new times. From routines, to movement, to meditation, to immune supporting supplements/foods, journaling, and staying connected - these are all important.

4. What is your morning routine?
I get up around 730, take my levothyroxine (I have Hashimotos), make a coffee for Eddie & I and then sit in bed and look at the view (something I used to dream about doing before) to have a slow start to the day. Then I journal a little, and then onto movement (either Melissa Wood Health flow, or lately Chloe Ting's 2 week shred!). Then I get dressed (quick natural make up tutorial on my IGTV) and am at my desk by 9am to start the work day.

5. What is your go-to healthy snack and/or meal?
Haha, I love eggs so much that a boiled egg is my go to! Banana and natural peanut butter is another. Or sometimes a handful of almonds. For lunch I love a grain free wrap with something like tuna, avocado and cucumber or egg (again) and salad.

6. Favorite way to connect with friends and loved ones?
Right now, good old FaceTime has been great, virtual book clubs, group texts for our Chloe Ting challenge, text and zoom quizzes - I might start hand writing some letters!

7. What do you do if you are feeling stressed/overwhelmed during this time?
It happens right? These are unusual times and it is totally okay to have days where it all feels too much/you're exhausted/anxious etc. When I feel like this sometimes journaling is best - get it out and onto paper. Sometimes it surprises you what comes up. Other times it's a Headspace/Prezence/Melissa Wood Health meditation. A cup of tea and 5min to myself. Bath with lavender and a good book. Or call my best friend/mum!

8. What is your favorite way to sweat while at home?
A few different ways! Kara Duval has some great Insta Lives for pilates, or as I mentioned Melissa Wood Health (her app has amazing yoga-pilates flows from 8-50min for long lean lines), Chloe Ting, or a run.

9. What is your quarantine go-to drink?
I am the queen of beverages! So I have a few: hot fresh lemon w a bit of manuka honey, oat milk latte (obsessed w my Nespresso machine), dalgona coffee ;), la croix, all wine haha and mint tea.

10. What is one wellness product you can't live without?
Wowww that is really hard. I think it would have to be my journal. And my gua sha a close second...

11. What are a few things you are looking forward to once this is all over?
Honestly, humans being around other humans (whether they are friends/family/strangers) without it feeling weird. We use to take the energy of being around other people for granted - now I can't wait for that moment. My family is in the UK so I cant wait to see them. Seeing my friends and coworkers. Going out for dinner. Traveling to another place - any place. Getting a massage.

12. What are you grateful for?
My health. My husband/family/friends health. To have a home I love and food on the table. Time to myself. To work for an amazing company (Red Bull).

13. What book, show or podcast would you recommend?
Books: The Shift Stirrer Method & Everything Is Figureoutable. Show: Goop Lab (fascinating on many levels) & Little Fires Everywhere. Podcast: How I Built This, Create & Cultivate's WorkParty, Balanced Blonde Soul on Fire, No Make Up Needed, Second Life, GirlBoss Radio. I have an Amazon store people can head to for all my fave things (link in bio).

14. Favorite music to listen to?
Hardest question ever haha! Ranges from Jessie Ware to Maggie Rogers to Erykah Badu to Robyn. I have a playlist with all my faves.

15. What is one piece of advice for people who are having a hard time right now?
I would say talk to someone. A friend/parent/relative/colleague/manager - whoever you feel is there for you. A problem shared is a problem halved. I am more than happy to chat to anyone and they can DM me @studioselfco, I do this a lot!

16. Go-to lounge wear/WFH outfit?
Lululemon leggings and a cropped sweater! Or cycling shorts and an oversized sweater.

17. Is there anything else you want my followers to know about you or @studioselfco at this time?
I hope everyone finds @studioselfco to be a little corner of the internet that lifts them up, makes them feel good, and provides tangible tips and tools for becoming the best version of them selves. I hope to see them there!
