Why I Ride: The Only Workout that Truly gets me High

So I am sure many of you have heard of SoulCycle, but for those of you that may not have, or may not have ever truly experienced it let me back it up for you.

SoulCycle is an indoor cycling class, but on steroids.

  • The class is taught by inspirational instructors - I mean really they motivate you and cheer you on the entire class.

  • It is set in a dark candlelit room to high-energy music.

  • The class is about 45 minutes of high-intensity riding, a little bit of light weights and concludes with some stretching.

Let me tell you a little bit about my experience and why I love it. My first ever class I did with my boss, and my client. YEAH. Thankfully, I sat behind them both. I may or may not have turned up the bike intensity once or twice, but because I was in the dark, and because it was my first time, I just went at my own pace, listened to my body and did what I had to do - and that was encouraged. Each and every time I got a little bit better, and slowly turned it up (literally on the bike!). So why do I love it so much?

  • I am a sucker for a motivational speech. Almost every class, I’m like “yes! this is where I am supposed to be.” I may or may not tear up, but we won’t get into that weirdness. It's because I’m so moved - LET’S NOT JUDGE.

  • I just love the way I feel mentally and physically in the class. I KNOW I am working hard and getting a good work out in.

  • I feed off the energy in the room

  • You can really go at your own pace

  • It’s in the dark - judgement free zone! You really just need to do you and do your best.

  • The music - ugh, all the time - I am having a dance party. I love riding to the rhythm.

When I travel, I am excited to book a class in a new location. So why am I telling you all of this? Try SoulCycle? Sure! But the the real moral of the story here is to find something that you LOVE to do. That does not feel like an exercise and that makes you gush in a blog post. Find something that will make you feel good in a blog post. Even if it’s just going for a walk outside in nature, or dancing, or swimming. Do what feels good and tell me what that is so I can try it too!

Be well <3
