Food for Fall: healthy turkey chili recipe
I’m all about warm and cozy comfort food for fall. I’ve been trying to make childhood favorites just a bit healthier. Here’s my health(ier) turkey chili recipe. Enjoy, be well and stay cozy!
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 pound of ground turkey
1 1/2 teaspoon of organic olive oil
1 onion chopped
1 tablespoon of garlic minced
2 cups of low sodium chicken broth
1 can of organic diced tomatoes
2 cups of Rao’s tomato sauce (optional)
Canned kidney beans (drained, mashed, and try to find a lower sodium, if possible)
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon tumeric
Hot sauce (to taste, so a lot for me :))
1 teaspoon of chili flakes
2 teaspoons of Cajun spice
2 teaspoons of nutritional yeast
Pinch of sea salt
Squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
Here’s what to do with them:
Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Place turkey in the pot, and cook until evenly brown.
Stir in onion, and cook until tender.
Add broth into the pot. Mix in tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans and garlic. Mix and add in seasoning.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 30 minutes.
Enjoy in your sweatpants (optional but highly recommended :))
